Steel Plates
|
Grade |
Low Carbon Plates |
Regular | .33 max carbon. Base plates and non critical applications. Most economical plate available. |
Chemistry 1010, 1020... | Specified controlled chemistry range. S.A.E. or AISI standard steels. Excellent machinability. |
ASTM A36 | Structural application for welded, bolted and riveted buildings, and general fabrication. Weldable, formable, with good strength levels. |
High Strength Low Alloy |
|
Are carbon plates with low ranges of alloying elements added. With a minimum yield point of 42 - 80 PSI and tensile of 60 - 90 PSI.
ASTM A572 Grade 50 | Provides high strength, good workability and weldability at a moderate price. Used in bridges, buildings, construction equipment, freight cars, machinery, truck parts and light standards. |
Alloy Plates |
|
Applications where savings in weight offsets higher cost of steel. A strong reason to buy alloy plate is its ability to increase its hardenabilty through heat treating.
ASTM A514 or T-1 | Quenched and tempered constructional alloy steel with unique combination of high yield strength, weldabilty, and good toughness. Used in bridges, towers, earth moving equipment, booms, bucket parts for power shovels, cranes, fork lift parts, mining equipment, and tanks. |
SAE or AISI 4140 | Economical alloy steel which develops high strength and hardness after heat treatment. Used in machine and press parts, die and die holders, tools, molds, gears, and crane parts. |
Abrasive Resistant Plates |
|
Used when two materials are rubbing or contacting each other producing wear in both parts. Sliding abrasion - worn away by friction, such as sand sliding down a chute. Impact abrasion - worn away by gouging, spalling or cutting caused by hard materials such as a rock striking a surface.
T-1 Type B, AR400, AR500 | High tensile and yield strength. Used for impact buckets, chutes, hoppers, conveyors, mining equipment, and liners. |
Floor Plates |
|
ASTM A786 |
Used for flooring, stairways, transportation equipment and general structural purposes. |
Stainless Steel Plates |
|
Stainless steel plates are corrosion resistance, high strength at elevated temperature, strength and ductility at cryogenic temperatures, oxidation resistance at high temperatures and have a beautiful appearance.
S.S. 304 | A non-hardenable austenitic low carbon chromium-nickel steel which is a general purpose corrosion resisting steel. This grade is non magnetic in the annealed condition, but is slightly magnetic when cold worked. |
S.S. 304L | A very low carbon austenitic chromium-nickel steel with general corrosion resistance similar to 304 but with superior resistance to intergranular corrosion following welding or stress relieving. The low carbon content limits the formation of harmful carbides to such an extent that this grade may be safely used in place of stabilized types of stainless for most articles of welded construction, where the surface temperature is limited to 800 degrees F. Post weld annealing is not necessary in most cases. |
S.S. 316 | A non-hardenable austenitic chromium-nickel steel with superior corrosion and heat resisting qualities. This grade is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and is slightly magnetic when cold worked. |
S.S. 316L | A very low carbon austenitic chromium-nickel steel with general corrosion resistance similar to 316 but with superior resistance to intergranular corrosion following welding or stress relieving. It is recommended for products which are welded during fabrication and which cannot be readily annealed after welding. The addition of molybdenum provides an extra measure of corrosion resistance making this grade particularly suitable for applications involving severe corrosive conditions such as use in the chemical industry and marine atmospheres. |
S.S. 410 | A hardenable chromium steel which is adaptable for general purpose corrosion resisting and heat resisting applications. This grade is magnetic at all times. |
